EDIT: i'm going to use my blogger account instead of LiveJournal for now on. You can found me here.

I finished reading The Sweet Scent of Blood by Suzanne McLeod this morning, and i was frustrated with myself for not having bought this book before! Really what was i thinking?
So i ordered the second book right away, and i can't wait to put my hands on it.

I'm always sad to see that there aren't many reviews on the French Amazon Website,  and most of the time there isn't even the book synopsis! So i try to change that...

I just finished writing a small review for the French amazon
HERE . I only review there the books i'd give 5 stars to, and The Sweet Scent of Blood deserved it. I wish i could write amazing reviews, but i've never been the one to explain myself easily ,still it conveys the message i wanted...READ this book, you won't regret it, that's the most important part.

=)

frame

Yesterday i went to Cora, the French equivalent of Wall-Mart  and i was really surprised when i saw THIS:

This is the first time i see that many Urban-fantasy books in a french Big store. It's even hard to see these books at a bookstore so you can imagine my surprise! Great surprise!

I don't read books in french, but most of my friends and family do...so i know what they'll get for Christmas/birthday/any-event-worth-giving-presents *grins* (i was also tempted to buy them for me just because they were beautiful...lol but my bank account disagreed!)

I've always been attracted to this book, and i often found myself looking at the book description on Amazon. Today was the Day! I finally decided to buy it.... mostly because it was, for a change...in stocks on the French Amazon (usually it's status was 2-3 weeks delay, and i'm not really patient)

This is the 1st book of the Spellcrackers series:

Spellcrackers.com - Book 1

'My name is Genny Taylor. I work for Spellcrackers.com. It’s a great job, pays the rent, lets me do the thing I’m good at – finding magic and cracking it – and the bonus is it’s run by witches, which stops the vamps from taking a bite out of me.

Not that vampires are the big bad any more, not since they launched a slick PR campaign – oh, and they brought the goblins on board. Now the vamps are sought-after celebrities, and Getting Fanged and taking the Gift are the new height of all things cool.

But only if you’re human.

And I’m not.

I’m Sidhe fae.

And I know firsthand just how deadly a vampire can be.’

When Mr October, a sexy calendar pin-up vamp, is accused of murdering his girlfriend, an old debt is called in and Genny is forced to help prove his innocence, risking her job and the protection it offers – and threatening to expose her own dark secrets. Searching for the killer plunges Genny deep into the hidden heart of vampire society. It’s not long before she realises that she and Mr October are both unwitting pawns in a centuries-old power struggle between London’s non-human communities . .  . and it’s not just her own neck that’s at stake, but the lives of all London’s supernaturals.

So here it is...i'll have the book on Monday and i am excited now!

Also Suzanne McLeod has just released the 2nd book of the series! The Cold Kiss Of Death

Spellcrackers.com - Book 2

16th July 2009

Genny Taylor works for Spellcrackers.com ±
Making Magic Safe. But her own life is anything but safe!

‘The ghost grasped her shift and ripped it open. The three interlacing crescents carved red-raw and bleeding into her thin chest didn’t look any better than the last dozen times I’d seen them. The wounds weren’t lethal – they weren’t even recent; she’d been dead for at least a hundred and fifty years – but my gut still twisted with anger that someone would do that to a child.’

Being haunted by a ghost is the least of Genny’s problems: she’s also trying to deal with the witch neighbour who wants her evicted. Finn, her sort-of-Ex – and now her new boss – can’t quite decide whether he wants their relationship to be business or pleasure. And then there’s the queue of vamps inviting her to paint the town red; how long before they stop taking no for an answer?

Just when it seems things can’t get any worse a human friend is murdered using sidhe magic. Determined to hunt down the killer and needing help, she turns to one of London’s most capricious wylde fae and the seductive vampire Malik al-Khan.

But all too soon she realises she doesn’t know who she can trust – and now Genny’s the one being hunted, not just by the police, but by some of London’s most powerful and dangerous supernaturals

I Today we celebrate Bastille day in France. National celebration of the French Revolution. Meaning watching the parade for me!

As to my reading...

Next month book 2 of the Jane Jameson series by Molly Harper will be released.

I LOVED the first book it was a real plesure to read and i was sad when it ended i wanted more!

The first book of the series is called Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs:

'Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that’s sure to become Half-Moon Hollow legend.  On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot and left for dead.  And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate.  She has to fake breathing and daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family.  She’s forced to forego her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative.  Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold.  And if all that wasn’t enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What’s a nice undead girl to do?'

The second book which will be released in August 2009 is called Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men
(spoilers in the book description below, if you haven't read the first book yet you should not read below)

'Once a devoted children's librarian, Jane Jameson now works at a rundown occult bookstore. Once a regular gal, she's now a vampire. And instead of a bride, she's an eternal bridesmaid -- which leads her to question where exactly her relationship with her irresistibly sexy sire, Gabriel, is headed. Mercurial, enigmatic, apparently commitment-phobic vampires are nothing if not hard to read. While Jane is trying to master undead dating, she is also donning the ugliest bridesmaid's dress in history at her best friend Zeb's Titanic-themed wedding. Between a freaked-out groom-to-be, his hostile werewolf in-laws, and Zeb's mother, hell-bent on seeing Jane walk the aisle with Zeb, Jane's got the feeling she's just rearranging the proverbial deck chairs.

Meanwhile, Half Moon Hollow's own Black Widow, Jane's Grandma Ruthie, has met her match in her latest fiancé. He smells like bad cheese and has a suspicious history of dead spouses. But Jane's biting her tongue. After all, would a nice girl really think she has a future with a vampire?'

The 3rd book will be released in December 2009 it is called Nice Girls Don't Live Forever .

Molly Harper's book made me laugh out loud like never before. I had a great time and i can't wait for the next book to be released.

If you like your supernatural book with a huge dose of humour you should definitely check it out!

Really i'm getting short on my lists of amazing-books to read this summer...and since it could take more than a month to get said books through Amazon i have to think about that now!
It's not easy to find new books and authors to read. I usually trust my fellow bloggers , reading their reviews and getting an idea of what's to be read! I have a few books ordered already (some i ordered more than a month ago but still didn't received!) but recommendations are welcomed!

I started this week with a great surprise, it seems i won the
Jeri Smith-Ready contest at  Amberkatze's Book Blog.
Since i love Jeri Smith-Ready's writting i am really happy =) Now i just have to wait for it to be confirmed ans i'll be in heaven

Just began reading  Street Magic by Caitlin Kittredge . This is the first book i read from this author so i don't know if i'll like it, we'll see...

"Her name is Pete Caldecott. She was just sixteen when she met Jack Winter, a gorgeous, larger-than-life mage who thrilled her with his witchcraft. Then a spirit Jack summoned killed him before Pete’s eyes—or so she thought. Now a detective, Pete is investigating the case of a young girl kidnapped from the streets of London. A tipster’s chilling prediction has led police directly to the child…but when Pete meets the informant, she’s shocked to learn he is none other than Jack. Strung out on heroin, Jack a shadow of his former self. But he’s able to tell Pete exactly where Bridget’s kidnappers are hiding: in the supernatural shadow-world of the fey. Even though she’s spent years disavowing the supernatural, Pete follows Jack into the invisible fey underworld, where she hopes to discover the truth about what happened to Bridget—and what happened to Jack on that dark day so long ago… "

I've read a few chapters so far, and i still want to read it, so i guess this is looking good.

Upcoming book : DawnBreaker

frame

A book i am waiting for is DawnBreaker by Jocelynn Drake

This is the 3rd book of her Dark Days series. I already talked about this book but now i have the cover and cover blurb to go with!

The cover is absolutely gorgeous in my opinion, i think the choice of colors is amazing, and the model is beautiful. What do you think?

If you haven't read the first 2 books and want to avoid spoilers you shouldn't read what's coming next.

"The dawn brings a new terror for the creatures of the night...

Those of her race fear Mira for the lethal fire she bends to her will -- a power unique among nightwalker, both a gift ... and a curse.

The naturi despise Mira for what she is -- as they prepare for the final sacrifice that will destroy the barriers between the worlds. And once the naturi are unchained, blood, chaos, and horror will reign supreme on Earth.

Mira can trust only Danaus, the more-than-mortal vampire slayer, though he is sworn to destroy her kind. And now, as the days approaches when titanic forces will duel under cover of darkness, destiny draws then toward an apocalyptic confrontation at Machu Picchu. But all is not lost, for a wild card has been dealt to them: a rogue enemy princess who can change the balance of power and turn the dread tide."
